What My Clients Are Saying About Me
Academicians
I have received from [Sunaina] invaluable advice on navigating the academy.
Her tips were practical; the ascent in terms of productivity started immediately.
I especially benefited from her ideas on reducing clutter and setting priorities; negotiating for more resources for myself and for my students; and how to respond to professional dilemmas and aggressive situations, especially in other other institutions I interact with.
I would like to continue working with her in the next few years.
Evan M. Mwangi, Professor, Northwestern University, Evanston IL
Working with Sunaina has been incredibly empowering.
Through her guidance in our coaching sessions, I came to a better understanding of where my skills and passions intersected and was able to use this knowledge in developing a roadmap of where I wanted my career to go.
She was careful to make sure I considered the pros and cons, both professionally and personally, associated with moving into a leadership role within my college.
By working with Sunaina, I was able to confidently move in a direction I had been hesitant to, and am now reaping the rewards of being in a new, challenging, and fulfilling leadership position.
Jonathan J. Makela, Associate Dean Undergraduate Affairs, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign IL
Sunaina Sharma has been an effective coach for me personally for almost two years.
More importantly, she collaborated with me to improve the Engineering Faculty Leadership Forum (EFLF).
Sunaina has been an excellent coach for the faculty members in this program. Reports from my colleagues praise her intellect, engagement, passion, and ability to challenge appropriately.
In addition, I have recommended Sunaina as a coach to several colleagues outside the leadership program.
Raymond L. Price, Professor of Human Behaviour, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign IL
Sunaina's coaching taught me to reflect on core goals rather than trying to be perfect and wanting it all.
The changes in me have been profound - also in aspects outside of my academic life. I have developed stronger relationships with my team and my colleagues and I am producing work with quality results.
Because of Sunaina's insights and processes, I have discovered the type of leader I want to be, and the authentic motivation that best supports the members in our team.
Karrie G. Karahalios, Associate Professor, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign IL
Sunaina did an excellent job in making complex topics easy to understand through relevant references and examples.
Before starting our coaching meetings, I thought that I knew a lot about people relations. [A]fter learning from [Sunaina], I am much better equipped to deal with various types of difficult situations.
This new knowledge will be very helpful for me for years to come. It was most beneficial to me both professionally and personally.
Iwona Jasuik, Professor, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign IL
Sunaina has given me tools ... to precisely define my goals and ... strategies to achieve them.
She has given me tools to more effectively and efficiently organize my activities and time, which also helps me to achieve my goals.
She has given me guidance on proposal writing and other useful points that I can implement in my life and profession.
I am now more confident and am seeking out opportunities that I would not have otherwise.
Amy J. Wagoner Johnson, Chair of Excellence Foundation Nanosciences, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign IL
Sunaina is an excellent coach.
She offers guidance - from the pragmatic to the philosophical - in defining one’s goals and executing the “action steps” needed to achieve them.
For her support in everything from identifying the best time to write to envisioning the broad impact of one’s work, I highly recommend her.
Krista-angilique Thompson, Professor, Northwestern University, Evanston IL
Sunaina offers a consistent and structured coaching.
Sunaina's coaching taught me to how to define my priorities and achieve an effective balance.
I had a sense that I am constantly overloaded with responsibilities and tasks as my career was progressing along. I was glad to receive promotions and recognitions in my career, but at the same time, it was getting hard to manage priorities.
Sunaina truly helped me to evaluate my current situation and make adjustment to focus on priorities in my life.... I am [now] more efficient and able to concentrate without distractions.
You will gain insight on the most pressing part of your career from her cross-cultural and high-profile executive experience.
Harrison H. M. Kim, Professor, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign IL
Sunaina's coaching is extremely helpful - many of the approaches and techniques [are] of permanent value.
One of the things I find very useful and beneficial is her considerable knowledge and training in executive decision making and organization; indeed, it is great to hear about the different studies and best-practice management strategies, and the data and analyses that back them up.
As an academic, in many cases the recommendations and practices are things one might think of on one’s own after days (or months) of contemplation, so to have many of them introduced very quickly, and then have their systematic application to an issue of specific interest be the basis of a discussion allows one to make rapid progress.
Perhaps most importantly, I have found her approach and style to be very responsive and customized to the particular topics that I want to discuss, and thus session time is used very effectively and has maximal impact.
Overall the experience has been very beneficial and positive.
Geir E. Dullerud, Professor, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign IL
Sunaina blends NLP [NeuroLinguistic Programming], leadership and fulfillment coaching to work deeply on the unconscious to make lasting change.
Sunaina listens very deeply. She reflects back what you said in a way that makes you feel heard.... Sunaina is very organized and structured, which helped me to gain clarity.
Sunaina helped me to navigate the challenges of working towards a PhD while running a success[full] life coaching practice with ease and grace.
With Sunaina’s help, I was able to identify and focus on the 20% of the tasks that gave 80% of the results, [and] so yield maximum efficiency from my efforts.
When you work with Sunaina, prepare to accomplish a ton as her dynamic approach catalyzes tremendous positive sustainable change.
Samantha C. Sinclair, Graduate Student University of California at Berkeley CA
I just want to mention that the coaching sessions [with Sunaina] are incredibly useful.
If I was sent to a workshop to learn about leadership, I doubt I would be able to apply anything I learned. The coaching sessions allowed me to discuss and receive feedback about the difficulties that I was facing and implementing the suggestions. I could see how effective the feedback was to me.
The notes and the documentation that Sunaina sent were also very helpful too. I look at these myself when I was not certain about what to do.
Thanks very much.
Thanh H. (Helen) Nguyen, Professor, Co-editor-in-chief Environment International, Chair of Environmental Engineering and Science Program (2017-2021); CEE Excellence Faculty Fellow; Infection Genomics for One Health Faculty Affiliate, Institute for Genomic Biology; Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign IL
I found coaching lessons with Sunaina extremely helpful in that I could put abstract thoughts and struggles into a defined framework.
It helped me clearly articulate what I was dealing with from which I could compose a strategy forward. It was also very helpful that she could adapt the coaching very specifically to my needs and provide guidance in how to think about and how to deal with certain situations.
I certainly recommend this to someone who is taking a leadership role but to anyone who is aspiring to achieve a more fulfilling life. It certainly has been a great help to me.
Tonghun Lee, Professor, Kritzer Faculty Scholar; Department of Mechanical Science & Engineering, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign IL
Physicians / Academicians
I was fortunate to participate in a personal coaching program with Sunaina Sharma.
Through this experience, I have been able to self-reflect on my strengths and weaknesses to better tackle the challenges inherent to both my career and personal life.
Sunaina’s warm and engaging style enabled me to develop and crystallize a better sense of purpose in my work, and to modify my thinking and behaviour in order to meet my individual goals and objectives.
Thank you Sunaina for sharing your wisdom and experience!
Dr. Jeffrey Sulphur, BSc MSc MD FRCPC, Clinical Assistant Professor UBC, Medical Oncologists, BC Cancer Victoria BC
Sunaina Sharma listened deeply and responded insightfully.
As a physician, I was not familiar with leadership styles, strategies, philosophy or terminology.
Sunaina led me with great patience and humour. Her depth of knowledge, experience and wisdom made our journey enjoyable and challenging.
I felt respected and safe in our discussions. Sunaina challenged me with projects and tasks to implement and solidify each skill. I found new insights through these, her teachings and self reflection.
Our collaboration was a timely injection of renewed enthusiasm. There has already been changes to myself and my leadership role.
I thank Sunaina for her skills and coaching style to lead me there.
Dr. Randy Marback, MD, Radiation Oncologist, BC Cancer Nanaimo BC
Sunaina was my first work coaching experience and it was an excellent introduction.
She introduced many useful concepts and strategies after an introductory session to identify the issues I needed help with. Each session focused on new topics or reinforced some prior learning. Useful resources - TED talks, reading materials were recommended.
Overall a very useful positive first experience from which I have learned skills that will help me to be a more effective leader with my ongoing projects at work.
Thank you Sunaina you have been great to work with!
Dr. Andrea Pollock, Radiation Oncologist, Fraser Valley Cancer Centre, Member, Clinical Systems and Transformation MSES subcommittee
I would like to thank [Sunaina] very much for our sessions.
I found them practical and useful. The initial few sessions were particularly useful. In particular, I think that I deal much better with some of the staff that I have had difficulties dealing with in the past because of the work that we did at the coaching session.
I have new insights about how to appeal to them to get improved behaviour from them. I do not feel at all emotionally irritated by their passive aggressive comments, which is probably the biggest win!
I think I am a more compassionate, and hopefully, more effective leader now. Thanks again!
Dr. Elaine Wai, BSc MSc MD, Clinical Professor UBC, Senior Executive Director of Medical Affairs and Quality BC Cancer, Vancouver BC
Sunaina, I’m thankful for these coaching sessions.
They allow me to re-evaluate what’s important to me. I’m able to have a better vision of what I want to achieve with my career.
I’m thinking of signing up for leadership courses now. (before this, I would’ve brushed it off and say no to any more learning/non clinical work).
Dr. Thao P. Nguyen, ND MD FRCPC, Clinical Instructor UBC, Medical Oncologist BC Cancer Abbotsford BC
Working with Sunaina has helped me to understand my leadership style and to understand how it impacts others in my department.
She has helped me to learn how different behaviour can impact whole groups of individuals and how to best manage them so that they are not disruptive to the whole of the department.
Dr. Sylvie Bourque, MD MSc FRCPC, Clinical Assistant Professor UBC, Department Head, Mediacl Oncologist BC Cancer Surrey BC

Sunaina is very adept at listening and pulling out the right areas to focus on – she made me feel heard.
Sunaina has been such a pleasure to work with, and to learn from.
Never having had any coaching before, I didn’t know what to expect. Sunaina was very clear about the process and expectations, and made me instantly comfortable.
Her compassion, positivity, and willingness to share her personal path made me feel at ease, engaged, and not alone. And her authentic pleasure in helping is evident in each session. And her use of analogies to explain tricky concepts is brilliant!
I feel I gained a great deal from my coaching and have been given tools to be able to continue my growth – most importantly, with great thanks to Sunaina, I feel ready to tackle it.
Kristy Kerr, Executive Director, BC Centre for Disease Control Foundation, Vancouver BC
Sunaina's coaching taught me how to motivate my Team.
In just a few sessions, I have gained the necessary clarity and improved communication and have learned techniques to motivate my Team and volunteers.
Now [the Board and our Staff] work more efficiently, we are attracting more volunteers and are moving confidently towards fulfilling the mandate of our Society with integrity and respect.
Elisha Yao, Executive Director, Chinese Community Policing Centre, Vancouver BC
Sunaina gave me confidence in myself and my ability to take our Society on a new path.
With her assistance and her simple yet practical tools, we were able to create the Vision and Mission Statements of our Society.
Now I can confidently present this draft to our Board for their acceptance. I am comfortable in the knowledge that I can call Sunaina if I make a mistake.
She is the "navigator" of my car.
Harry Lee, Board Chair, Chinese Community Policing Centre, Vancouver BC
My coaching sessions with Sunaina Sharma especially ... around leadership styles and philosophies were extremely eye-opening.
Now I have a deeper understanding of why certain approaches work better for me than others and how I, as a leader, can improve based on new approaches and philosophies.
Rune Mikkelsen, Manager, YWCA Metro Vancouver BC
Sunaina encouraged me to visualize my goals, as if I already have achieved them.
I would highly recommend Sunaina Sharma as an excellent Life Coach, because she listens to what I say, challenges my inconsistencies, and helps me map out the steps I need to take to get where I need to go.
She helped me discover how I will reach my goal(s) and offered me support along my journey!
Dalwyn Dean, Manager, Renton Veterans Affairs Seattle, Washington USA
My coaching sessions with Sunaina have been dynamic and informative.
She has an excellent way of pinpointing an issue and offering practical, meaningful strategies that can be applied in my daily work going forward.
Creating a vision board with Sunaina was an invaluable and insightful exercise that helped me focus more clearly on the things that are inherently important in both my personal life and my career.
Thank you, Sunaina for your guidance through this exercise!
Angela Crowther, Philanthropy Officer, BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, Vancouver BC
Sunaina’s style is a combination of being a good listener, consoling, comforting, confronting.... [S]he has a no-nonsense approach.
I benefited from this style, because sometimes I hide behind what I call verbal gymnastics.
I am ready to continue to: accept, who I am; love the "work in progress," that I am; acknowledge my many strengths; realistically look at my weaknesses; be willing to do the hard work of keeping what is good and changing what needs to be changed; finally, realizing that this process will continually need to be tweaked throughout my lifetime.
Thank you, Sunaina!
Dalwyn Dean, Dress for Success Professional Women’s Working Group, Seattle Washington USA

Sunaina is insightful, present and committed to the coaching process.
Her use of metaphors, images, and stories brought our interaction to a higher level. She was fun, down-to-earth and ready to partner with me on the issues I brought to the table. Flexible but secure about her approach and skills.
Our interaction brought clarity of steps and actions I need to take. Sunaina also brought a level of accountability that prompted me to action.
Great value, great person, great skills, great coach!

Sunaina Sharma is a great coach for me.
She is helping me start feeling, visualizing and listening to what positive and good things the future holds for me. Getting me ready and stronger to face the mountain ahead and start climbing it.
[S]ince the start of my coaching, I can see a huge difference. I am actually a different person now. I am now transitioning softly to start discovering who I truly want to become and what future I want.
With Sunaina by my side, I am able to be gentler with myself, to pay more attention to what’s unfolding in every instant and to make step by step regular progress towards a future I long for.

Sunaina is a caring and a nurturing coach who can equally challenge her clients when she asks stretching questions.
Working with her has been an absolute pleasure, as she displays high standards in her commitment and knowledge of this field.
Sunaina coaches from the heart. While using tools on which she has been trained, she improvises and keeps them very relevant for her clients.
[H]er exercises on visualization, her stretching questions, her ability to make me look at things from a different perspective so that I can change the way I am perceiving things.
Her coaching helped me immensely in getting back to the anchor that I had inside me.
Harmeet Anand, Management Consultant, Jakarta Indonesia
Through coaching with Sunaina, I have been able to discover a direction that is best for me to focus on and determine my first steps.... She helped me prepare for roadblocks.

As a result of [Sunaina's] training and coaching, I gained confidence, accepted more easily to make mistakes and started considering them as opportunities to grow and learn.
She praised me for my progress yet at the same time did not hesitate to challenge me softly but firmly. She showed trust in my potential to improve and become a true coach. She coached me to become a coach.
I understand becoming a good coach requires a certain state of mind combining openness to change and humility. It is indeed a life path.
Thank you Sunaina Sharma for showing this to me.

3D-Systems Sculpting: Organizational Development Framework
Using playful props such as Lego, wooden blocks, Play doh, pipe cleaners, squishy balls, miniature dolls, animals, and action figures, a team of trained coaches and I, facilitated exploration of the organizational leaders’ perspectives of their organizations’ current states, and desired future states.
Following organizations took part in this 3D-Systems Sculpting: Organizational Development Framework:
Board, ICF Vancouver Charter Chapter
Canuck Place The Children’s Hospice
John Howard Society
TrueShield Insurance Western Canada
YWCA BC
SUCCESS BC
Atira Women’s Resources Society
The leaders were able to discover, dream, design, and deliver in a culture of safety and trust. Resulting in the creation of unique 3D metaphors representing their team’s strengths, challenges, critical assumptions, and desired results.
By the end of the CoachGiving Full Circle event, each organization shared their insights and next action items with the others, creating a culture of transparency and accountability.
Sunaina Sharma, Creator, 3D-Systems Sculpting: Organizational Development Framework
We found the ability to represent the challenges and the opportunities those offer in a different format extremely useful to help identify a way forward.
We loved working with our coaches and are excited to continue on this journey together towards finding solutions.
Catherine Gordon, HR Director, CPHR SCHRM-SCP, Canuck Place The Children’s Hospice, Vancouver BC
The evening was a good opportunity to step away from the office and reflect on how we as an organization can increase our effectiveness in delivering on our mission and mandate…by empowering and supporting our leaders to continually engage with, and support their staff in an ever-evolving, dynamic work place.
The facilitators created a safe space to express ourselves and use tactile materials to create a sculpture depicting where we are and where we’d like to be as an organization.
Niki Antonopoulou, Executive Director Atira Women’s Resource Society, Vancouver BC
Some of the insights from the evening allowed us to play with our creativity in working through these questions and … the … nonjudgmental approach and great questions really guided the process.
James Crowe, Recruitment Specialist & HR Generalist, John Howard Society, Vancouver BC
[ICF Vancouver Chapter] Board’s Executive participated in the [3D-System Sculpting] activity and found that it brought us a new level of clarity and a refreshed sense of purpose.
Mark Winter, President ICF Vancouver Chapter Board, Vancouver BC
That was a wonderful [3D-System Sculpting] workshop last night.
We got a lot of clarity around the [ICF Vancouver] Chapter direction and how to engage the members, as well as how to serve them better.
Thank you again for initiating and creating this experience for us.
Candy Moztek, Treasurer ICF Vancouver Chapter Board, Vancouver BC
What I can say is that I see how this model requires/evokes creativity, thereby (I believe) opening the client to new perspective(s) and therefore new possibilities of approach to and realization of an intended vision.
A great option of exploration and discovery for a coach to have in his/her “tool bag”!
Justin Marples, Secretary ICF Vancouver Chapter Board, Vancouver BC
The [3D-System Sculpting] exercise reinforced what other people were saying, and I was able to grasp the underlying meaning in their points.Building the 3-D model also helped me to retain the discussion in a meaningful way.
Mike Gaba, Manager Business Development Western Canada, TruShield Insurance, Vancouver BC
The evening allowed for great discussions and through building 3-D models, it became a fun and engaging process.
This allowed the participants to really connect with their challenges and potential.
Our organization identified a need for increased trust and appreciation building at different levels within the organization.
Identifying these needs allows us to take further steps towards creating a coaching program that can really assist them in building a stronger community and in increase the organization’s impact.
Fenneke Tjallingii-Brocken, Performance Coach, North Vancouver BC
I liked working in partnership with another coach, as one focused on asking questions, and the other focused on making observations and bringing our group's collective attention to the clients' mind-body connections as they worked through the 3D System Sculpting exercise.
Catherine North, Organizational Development Consultant, Vancouver BC
It was a fun, enriching evening, and I really enjoyed meeting the leaders of our Partner organizations, as well as new coach colleagues.
We all engaged in a fun, “hands on” activity in small groups.
Using materials such as pipe cleaners, play [dough] and toys made it easy to articulate vision, challenges and ideas for moving forward.
Excited to facilitate group coaching with such dedicated professionals!
Isabel Budke, Leadership & Transitions Strategy Coach, Vancouver BC
As a coach the 3D System Sculpting Process was fantastic. I love models that involve structure and physicality - the process is amazing.
Overall the experience was inspiring and fun with excellent learning.
I look forward to the next phase!
Heidi Nucklaus, Career Coach, Vancouver BC
The process empowered the leaders to share, openly and honestly, their organization’s gaps and leadership needs at both a visionary and practical level.
The 3D-Modelling activity helped them to build upon one another’s ideas for the future success of their leadership team and resulted in identifying 3 concrete actions to take as a first step.
Cindy Theriault, Leadership Coach, Vancouver BC
Coaching in a 3D Systems Sculpting Process demands a different level of observation and sensing, and my learning in the process is how a tactile experience adds to a coaching conversation.
I noticed that “playing” with the toys helped prime the participants for a different type of group experience and initially put them at ease.
It was fascinating to see how quickly they used the materials and toys to relate to their current and desired states for the organization.
Jocelyne Hamel, Executive Coach & Consultant, Vancouver BC
